Dine in a wine cellar at Bar Douro
Occupying a railway arch in Bankside’s buzzing Flat Iron Square, Bar Douro was created as a way to bring authentic Portuguese food to London. The atmospheric 30-cover marble counter-top dining space offers an intimate window to the best of Portuguese culinary heritage. However, it is their private dining room that deserves attention when it comes to Christmas dining. The space can seat up to 14 people and their Christmas menu allows guests to ‘feast’ from the same menu; expect big plates and sharing dishes for a memorable evening (£45pp)
Surround yourself with modern artworks at Hixter Bankside
Hixter was originally a metal box factory and continues to pay homage to its origins with exposed brick and metalwork featured throughout its restaurant and hidden basement bar. The main dining room, complete with a baby grand piano, is overlooked by Charming Baker’s ‘Faith’s Leap’ and the walls of the striking open-plan kitchen are built with the Himalayan salt bricks that are used to age their beef. Great for more intimate gatherings, the CNB dining room is a bright space bathed in natural daylight enveloped by Luke Embden’s pop-art mural.
